Charlotte shares her beautiful birth story from her planned caesarean birth, touching on how important it is to have a supportive team around you & showing how calm a caesarean birth can be.

We went in for our planned section and it was honestly the most beautiful experience. We had the loveliest midwives who looked after us throughout. They took us into our bay and went through everything that was going to happen and when. They gave us our scrubs and said they would call us when it was time.
In the meantime the anaesthetist( who till this day I’m convinced is some kind of magician, she was the most magnificent woman) and our surgeon came to speak to us. They asked about birth choices , cutting the cord , weather I wanted to see him being born , what music we would like and again went through step by step what would happen.
Once we arrived in theatre it was so calm , all the staff were smiling and there was a proper buzz around the room. The anaesthetist put on my playlist and let my husband come and hold my hand whilst they did all the injections...
Once the caesarean started , the anaesthetist told me exactly what was happening and when. She explained what I might feel and when and adjusted my medication.
Within about 3 minutes they told my husband to stand up as it would be time to watch our baby be born. I asked if I could see too and they lowered the drapes and we watched him be born together. The midwives had my phone and took photos/ videos of our baby being born. I never asked them to and I’m so grateful that they did this. They are photos that I will treasure forever. But when you look at the photos , all the health professionals in the room have genuine happy smiles on their faces. It was such a beautiful experience and I loved every single second.
Honestly don’t know what I was ever worried about. It was literally perfect.
I was so scared about having a Caesarean because there wasn’t that many people who I knew who had had experience of elective ones so I was terrified. So I feel like if it helps at least one person to feel better about their caesarean then please share it!
