First time mum, Fran, has kindly shared her birth story. As first time mums we often prepare ourselves for a lengthy labour & birth experience, for Fran, her fast birth experience was the opposite. She shares of the importance of her husband understanding & knowing her birth choices as things moved quickly.

"I was encouraged to be induced when I went over 40 weeks but decided to wait. I got to 42 weeks so opted for a C-section at 42 + 4 as I knew I wanted to avoid induction. After arriving to the hospital for my C-section on the planned date, I was told they couldn't fit me in & to come back again the next day.

Within hours of being at home, my waters broke. From this point everything happened very quickly. I had my first contraction half an hour later. They were very intense and only 5 minutes apart so I knew I was going to labour quickly. We got to the hospital and within 2 hours of my first contraction, my baby was here!

My babies heart rate was monitored throughout my birth and his heart rate was dropping with each contraction and so to help him out quicker I had an episiotomy and forceps delivery. I would say that overall the care I received was amazing from start to finish. I didn’t feel in a position to give consent in my labour but luckily my husband knew my birth choices from completing the hypnobirthing course together. He was able to make decisions for me and everything was communicated well throughout.

I went from being so nervous to give birth in early pregnancy to feeling much more prepared and excited to see how my birth would be."
